Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at Colorado State University. We have an international reputation for excellence in research across a broad array of disciplines, including analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, materials and physical chemistry. Ph.D. graduates receive world-class training, participate in cutting-edge (and often interdisciplinary) research projects, and are employed at all levels of academia and industry around the globe. The faculty also enjoy an award-winning reputation for teaching excellence. Undergraduate students benefit both from access to this classroom expertise and from a long tradition of substantive undergraduate participation in research. The Department’s research efforts are supported by a state-of-the-art Central Instrument Facility that provides 24/7 student access to shared instrumentation.
Colorado State University chemistry graduate student Robert Higgins was recently named a NatureNet Science Fellow. This program selects promising early career scientists focused on helping to solve the world’s unprecedented challenges with climate change for two years of fellowship support.
Colorado State University Analytical Specialist Roy Geiss, Ph.D., and his research team, were given the 2017 Governor’s Award for High-Impact Research.
Colorado State University Assistant Professor of Chemistry Garret Miyake received the Cottrell Scholar Award for his polymer research.
This past fall, over 200 people came together in Loveland, Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Regional Conference: Energy in the Rockies, hosted by the Colorado Section of the American Chemical Society (COACS). This conference brought together local sections from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona. Special symposium and invited presenters came to discuss the application of chemistry to the production, management, evaluation, and study of energy.
