Dr. Jeff Bandar to join faculty in August 2017

Posted: February 7th, 2017

The Department of Chemistry is excited to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Bandar will be starting his independent career at Colorado State University in August 2017 as an Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry.

Jeff is currently working as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the laboratory of Professor Stephen L. Buchwald. His current research focuses on using transition metal catalysts for the enantioselective  synthesis of pharmaceutically-relevant small molecules.

He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry in 2014 at Columbia University under the guidance of Professor Tristan H. Lambert. There, Jeff helped pioneer the use of aromatic ions as design elements in catalysts, reactions and polymeric materials. In 2006, he earned a B.A. in chemistry at Saint John’s University in Minnesota.

At CSU, the Bandar Group aims to invent new concepts in catalysis and reaction promotion for application in chemical synthesis. This work will involve the discovery, development and implementation of new reagents and catalysts for the streamlined and practical preparation of valuable chemical entities.
