On Friday, December 1, 2017, the Department of Chemistry’s Betty Wilmoth, Associate Professor Joseph Diverdi, and Assistant Professor Jamie Neilson received the College of Natural Sciences Teaching & Mentoring Awards. The Teaching and Mentoring Awards were established in 1995 to recognize faculty, staff, and graduate students that have set a standard of excellence in the teaching and mentoring of students. These awards are the highest honor the College bestows for student education. Recipients not only help students realize their full learning potential, but encourage them to set high standards for scholarship, integrity, and independence, and are receptive to their concerns. Award winners are recommended to the dean and reviewed by a committee that includes previous award winners drawn from both faculty members and graduate students and an undergraduate student council member.

Betty Wilmoth, who is the stockroom manager, received the Dean’s Recognition Award.

Joseph Diverdi, Ph.D., received the Faculty Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and/or Mentoring Award.

Jamie Neilson, Ph. D., received the Early Career (Pre-Tenure) Faculty Excellence in Teaching and/or Mentoring Award.
