The Department of Chemistry welcomes our newest faculty member, Professor Romana Jarosova. Jarosova’s research focuses on development and application of cutting-edge methods and tools for the detection of biologically relevant compounds; understanding and prevention of cognitive decline, with a primary focus on Alzheimer’s disease.

Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Jarosova was first introduced to chemistry at Charles University in Prague, the oldest university in Europe, where she earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees. Her true passion for chemistry blossomed when she joined Professor Greg Swain’s group at Michigan State University. There, she discovered the exciting world of bioanalytical chemistry—a field where chemistry, particularly bioanalytical techniques, is applied to health-related science.

Since then, Jarosova has directed her postdoctoral studies toward bioanalytical chemistry and neuroscience, beginning at the University of Kansas and continuing at the University of Cincinnati.

Jarosova says, “Starting my independent career at CSU, I plan to develop a research program at the interface of bioanalytical chemistry and neuroscience. My research will center on creating innovative tools and methods to investigate neuronal disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and ADHD. By understanding the underlying mechanisms of these disorders, my ultimate goal is to contribute to disease prevention and, eventually, the development of new therapeutic strategies.”
