Description:Independent Research Proposal:\n\nThe potato is one of the most
  prominent food crops in the world and is often regarded as the most acces
 sible and affordable nongrain crop that has many health benefits. Each yea
 r\, the world produces around 368 million metric tons of potatoes. That pr
 oduction is often threatened by diseases\, causing a 10% loss in annual pr
 oduction. While the use of chemical pesticides can be beneficial\, they ca
 n also cause the development of fungicide resistance in pathogens and thus
  new and effective natural fungicides are necessary. Trichothecrotocin D h
 as been shown to effectively inhibit multiple pathogens that threaten pota
 to growth. The total synthesis of Trichothecrotocin D and potential deriva
 tives is proposed for their use as potential new fungicides.10:30 am
