Description:Analytical Chemistry Hach Lecture\n\nAbout the Seminar\n\nSever
al groups have recently reported on the remarkable possibility that chemis
try changes in very small volumes. This tantalizing observation may help e
xplain why cells are the size they are and how life\, a chemically unfavor
able event\, formed under abiotic conditions. Our group has been developin
g nanoelectrochemical tools to study reactions in sub-femtoliter volumes.
This talk will attempt to explain how chemistry changes in small volumes a
nd introduce our group\\'s efforts in developing electroanalytical techniq
ues that push the frontier of what is currently measurable at the nanoscal
 e. Applications of these techniques to single-cell pharmacokinetics\, envi
ronmental micropollutant sensing\, and single aerosol electroanalysis will
also be discussed.\n\nAbout the Speaker \n\nJeffrey E. Dick graduate wit
h a BS from Ball State University in 2013. After graduating with a Ph.D in
Chemistry under the direction of Prof. Allen J. Bard at the University of
Texas at Austin\, Jeffrey began his independent career at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018. Jeffrey is now the Richard B. We
therill Associate Professor of Chemistry and the Elmore Family School of E
lectrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. 4:00 pm
