Description:Seminar Abstract:\n\nRelative to the number of metal carbodiimi
des reported in literature\, very few are known to\ndemonstrate polymorphi
sm. This relatively underexplored aspect of metal carbodiimide\nsynthesis
is\, in part\, limited due to lack of a predictive model to determine whic
h crystal\nsystems may exhibit polymorphism. Measuring theoretical structu
ral complexity can be\naccomplished by hand or by open-source programs to
ascertain the relative complexity of\nknown crystal systems to investigate
entropic trends and locate theoretical polymorphs\nthat may have been ove
rlooked. This methodology was utilized by Juan Medina-Jurado et\nal. to pr
edict a new polymorph of Y2(NCN)3 as well as a new polymorph of Li2Sn(NCN)
3\,\nboth of which they successfully synthesized. These findings show that
it may be possible to\nquantitatively predict and synthesize new polymorp
hs in previously studied crystal\nsystems. 4:00 pm
