Description:About the seminar:\n\nPerovskites\, ABX3\, have been identified
as next-generation semiconducting and photovoltaic materials from hybrid
halide perovskites reaching commercialization. One subset of perovskites t
hat has been historically understudied are sulfur and chalcogenide contain
ing perovskites. Owing to a change in electronegativity from classical hal
ides or oxygen on the X-sites\, these perovskites have softer\, more polar
izable bonds. This results in more applicable properties for semiconductin
g applications such as smaller bad gaps\, increased electronic conductivit
y\, and increased thermal stability. In part\, the difficult synthesis con
ditions of long times and extremely hot temperatures have limited the disc
overy of new Sulfur/chalcogenide based perovskites. This seminar will intr
oduce a work showcasing a newly discovered reaction pathway to synthesize
the chalcogenide perovskite\, BaZrS3\, featuring lower temperate growth me
chanisms\, higher precursor reactivity\, and halide catalysts that improve
upon current literature synthesis for this class of material making new m
aterials discovery more accessible. 4:00 pm
