Description:Research Seminar -\n\nAbstract: Cyclic ketene acetals (CKAs) ha
ve been used in the synthesis of polyester/polyacrylate copolymers via rad
ical and cationic polymerization since the 1980s. It is a well understood
phenomenon that temperature plays a major role in cationic CKA polymerizat
ion\, with lower temperatures yielding more vinyl addition and higher temp
eratures favoring ring opening\, however\, this phenomenon has not yet bee
n exploited to its full potential. In this presentation a method for explo
iting the unique reactivity of CKAs will be explored and used to enable th
e synthesis of degradable polymer nanoparticles with applications in a var
iety of areas including drug delivery and environmental contaminant seques
 tration. 4:00 pm
