n tethered olefin functionalization technology will greatly aid in the pre
cise installation of alcohols and amines and in the efficient construction
of stereochemical arrays. In such reactions\, a nucleophilic auxiliary (
the tether”) is appended to ubiquitous functional groups\, usually alc
ohols or amines\, followed by a cyclization event. Because of geometric co
nstraints on the transition states of intramolecular reactions\, such cycl
izations generally proceed with predictable regioselectivity and high dias
tereocontrol. In this presentation\, I will describe my laboratory’s dev
elopment of several classes of tethered olefin functionalization reactions
and their applications to complex antibiotic synthesis.\n\nAbout the Spea
ker:\n\nShyam Sathyamoorthi completed a B.S. degree in Cell and Molecular
Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Tulane University\, New Orleans\, Lou
isiana\, where he worked in the labs of Professor Ken Muneoka and Professo
r Robert A. Pascal\, Jr. He then completed a PhD in chemistry at Stanford
University under the guidance of Professor Richard N. Zare (2018) as well
as a Doctor of Medicine degree at the Stanford University School of Medici
ne (2019). Since July 2019\, he is an assistant professor in the Departmen
t of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Kansas\, Lawrence\, KS\, US
