Description:Literature Seminar\n\nThe Eastern Cape of South Africa has expe
rienced a major water crisis in recent years\, which could lead to despera
tion and the consumption of river water by economically disadvantaged area
 s. Due to this possible consumption\, the monitoring and identity of pollu
tants within local waterways is highly important in order to protect the h
ealth and well-being of the local populations. This presentation will disc
uss how using 1H-NMR could help in determining what is actually in the riv
ers as well as what is and is not removed by water treatment plants before
being deposited back into the water systems. Additionally\, a method will
be discussed in how combining the usage of both mass spectrometry and 1H-
NMR could provide further information on determining the identity of more
complex molecules within the system.\n\nLink to Seminar:\n\nhttps://zoom.u
