Description:About the Seminar:\n\nResearch in chemistry\, the central scien
ce\, is profoundly engaged in addressing important global challenges relat
ed to health\, energy\, the environment\, and climate change. The chemistr
y core curriculum ought to reflect newfound abilities to make\, measure an
d model chemistry\, and lay the foundation for transformative advancements
by future chemists. For the last decade\, discussions have percolated thr
ough the US chemistry community of how a modern chemical education could b
e implemented\, particularly at a large state institution. In 2015 the CSU
Chemistry Department agreed to “Create an ad hoc committee to look at r
evisions to our undergraduate curriculum with an emphasis on improving fle
xibility and emphasizing the ability of students to take different paths t
o their degrees”. Through the efforts of a number of people\, we are in
the process of implementing a revised chemistry major that addresses the 2
015 charge. This seminar will provide a rationale for the changes and outl
ine what CHEM 2.0 looks like for current and future students. 4:00 pm
