Description:Literature Seminar:\n\nLithium Metal Batteries (LMBs) are an ex
citing alternative to Lithium-ion Batteries (LIBs) due to the theoretical
 capacity of Li-metal anodes (3861 mAh/g). Despite this excitement\, LMBs a
re plagued by gross instability during the Li plating/stripping process\,
which is thought to result from the formation of an unstable Solid-electro
lyte Interphase (SEI). Much work has been conducted in the field toward st
abilizing the SEI in LMBs via enhancing/enriching the SEIs of LMBs with th
e inorganic compound LiF. Lithium Fluoride layers in the SEI of LMBs can b
e formed in solution (in-situ LiF) or before cell assembly (ex-situ LiF)\,
although the intrinsic role of LiF in the SEI is still unclear. I will sh
are how He et al. 2018 used the study of LiF layers in LMBs to determine t
hat SEI repair is the most important factor concerning the efficient plati
ng/stripping of Li in LMBs. The most pertinent of their experiments and re
sults will be discussed\, and subsequently referenced versus the general c
onsensuses held with-in the battery literature. 4:00 pm
