Description:Substituted heterocycles are prevalent in natural products\, ph
armaceuticals\, and agrochemicals\, especially those with sulfonyl-\, sulf
oxyl-\, and alkyl-containing substituents. Due to their high oxidation pot
ential and propensity for catalyst poisoning\, the C(sp2)-H functionalizat
ion of N-heterocycles can be challenging. Pyridinium salts has been pivota
l in recent light-promoted methods involving electron donor-acceptor (EDA)
complexes\, as they negate the need for expensive\, tailor-made photocata
lysts and have been used in the 3-chlorination of quinoxalinones. I propos
e utilizing the redox capabilities of pyridinium salts through these EDA c
omplexes to create a general platform for the sulfonation\, sulfoxidation\
, and alkylation to a variety of hard-to-oxidize heterocycles. 4:00 pm
