Professor Anna Allen.

On Tuesday, November 11, Professor Anna Allen defended why Organic Chemistry is needed as a course at CSU’s newly founded Debate Club. Professor Allen argued that the programs that require organic chemistry are generally the sciences of living things and living things are made of carbon and the processes that keep them living are primarily organic chemistry so everyone in these fields should have a basic knowledge of the building blocks that make up what they study.

She added, “it is also a course that requires the development of problem solving and critical thinking skills in a way that may be difficult to do in other courses. I thought our moderator did an excellent job and I’m glad I was able to help the debate team kick off their project of bringing in faculty members for guest debates.”

Professor Panduka Piyaratne, who attended the event said, “Anna defended organic chemistry spectacularly! The engagement was factful, to-the-point, and polite throughout! and the opposition couldn’t help but surrender.”
