The Department of Chemistry welcomes its newest faculty member, Professor Jill Robinson! Professor Robinson holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Northeast Missouri State University and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her doctoral research focused on the development of a lightweight, portable instrument for measuring nitric oxide—both as an atmospheric pollutant and a biomarker for asthma in exhaled breath.
With teaching expertise in general, analytical, and environmental chemistry, Professor Robinson is passionate about chemical education. Her current research centers on strategies that engage students in the learning process, rather than passively listening to lectures. She has contributed curricular materials to the Analytical Sciences Digital Library and led workshops promoting student-centered pedagogies in analytical chemistry.
Professor Robinson also integrates authentic laboratory projects into her courses through the Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) model. Recent projects include the self-assembly and characterization of liposomes for use as antibiotics and the analysis of potentially counterfeit medications collected from low-income countries.
In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and watching collegiate sports.
