Abstract:

The extensive global use of pesticides in agriculture has raised significant concerns about potential health hazards. One major concern is the “take-home pathway” of exposure, where agricultural workers inadvertently introduce pesticide residues into their homes through their skin, shoes, and clothing, potentially endangering their families, especially children. This presentation covers current methods for detecting pesticides within residential settings, which are often costly, time-intensive, and require specialized expertise. Additionally, it explores the application of microfluidics with colorimetric detection as an alternative approach, providing simple, affordable, and user-friendly devices for at-home monitoring.
