Chen et al. developed a supramolecular dynamic cross-linking strategy to compatibilize immiscible mixed plastics using small-molecule cross-linkers capable of hydrogen bonding or ionic interactions. Through in situ grafting during reactive extrusion, these cross-linkers form dynamic networks that dramatically enhance the mechanical properties of nonpolar/nonpolar, nonpolar/polar, and polar/polar blends. This scalable, noncovalent approach enables multiple recycling cycles of postconsumer plastics without loss of performance, advancing the design of sustainable and circular polymer systems.
