The annual Global Women’s Breakfast at Colorado State University took place on Tuesday,
February 11, uniting a diverse group of faculty, graduate students, and staff to celebrate the
accomplishments of women and engage in thought-provoking discussions on gender equality,
empowerment, and collaboration. This year, the Chemistry Department proudly hosted the only
GWB2025 event in the Midwest United States, making a significant contribution to this global
initiative aimed at advancing women in science. The event underscored CSU’s commitment to
fostering an inclusive scientific community and empowering women to lead in the field of research
and education.

The event was facilitated by Professor Akiko Nakamura. She gave a presentation titled, “Keys
to Fostering Successful Advisor-Advisee Relationships” before opening up the room to a larger discussion. Students and faculty both discussed the importance of open and direct communication for building strong relationships between advisors and advisees. Attendees actively engaged in discussions surrounding gender equality, career development, and the importance of building supportive academic relationships.
