Research Seminar
About the Seminar:
Organocatalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (O-ATRP) is a method for producing well defined polymers under mild, metal-free conditions through the use of organic photoredox catalysis. Since the introduction of O-ATRP in 2014, much of the work in this field has focused on advancing this methodology through the development of new photoredox catalysts. However, a deeper mechanistic understanding is necessary for the continued development of this method. In this talk, recent efforts to study the mechanism of O-ATRP are presented, which have resulted in the identification of new side reactions, the isolation of key reaction intermediates, and the development of novel approaches to controlling polymer growth during O-ATRP.
